Many researchers find a place for the article among analytical genres. This can be explained by the peculiarities of this kind of material: they rely on analysis and are implemented in reasoning. At the heart of the article is not a fact, but its interpretation, as in the entire analytical group.

Types of article in journalism:

The general research article. The journalist’s focus is on global and generally significant problematic issues. For example, such articles discuss the political and economic course of the government, serious religious, social, and cultural topics. The journalist describes trends, perspectives, and patterns of social phenomena and offers theoretical substantiation.

Tactical and analytical (“problem”) article. The author’s attention is focused on the actual problems of practically significant branches and spheres of activity. It is necessary to find the causes of the problem, to describe the condition of the chosen segment and to draw conclusions that can help overcome difficulties. This is less global, but more vivid and pressing material that is needed to solve everyday problems. If the previous paragraph was about “peace” and “war”, “nation” and “humanity”, in this one – about the problem of bringing the carshare drivers to justice, or the expansion of the landfill and the protest of the residents of the area. The author examines the origins and essence of the conflict, delves into the situation of both sides and formulates the problem. The main criterion for its significance is the approximate number of people it affects.

A controversial article. Such materials are based on the conflict of different schools, currents, candidates, in short, opposing sides. They are published at the moment of the clash of the opponents. For example, when the question of building a temple in the park is discussed, the journalist looks into the conflict between Orthodox activists and local residents. As a rule, the author takes sides and justifies his decision, while refuting the arguments of the opposing side. In support of his position he cites real facts, opinions, and historical references. In this material the facts must have a special evidentiary power, because the article provides for a response – the objections of the other side.

There is another classification.

The Advance. Such materials are devoted only to topical issues of a general nature. They are concise, specific and justified by clear arguments. The author refers to the most topical topics of any nature – as long as the spoon is to the dinner table.

Theoretical and propaganda article. These materials reveal the cause-and-effect relations of global phenomena and problems. Each issue is presented with a theoretical basis of scientific or political practice.

Informational. There are informational and narrative articles aimed at describing the chronology of current events. But informative and descriptive materials reveal the essence of the phenomenon: its constituent parts, features and mechanisms of work.

General research article. Such texts open wide horizons of politics, economics, religion and other important areas of our life. They discuss only global trends and issues affecting the entire world, the entire country, the entire city. Journalism of this kind is characterized by the highest level of generalization, pathetics and scope of thinking.

The practical and analytical article. Such publications cover narrowly-specialized and practically-significant topics that are relevant to the here and now. A decrease in milk production at a large local enterprise is a classic topic for an article in this group.

The styles of articles in journalism are a text in the format of reasoning, which abounds in introductory constructions that facilitate the perception of the text. The author is free to use means of artistic expression to draw attention to an issue. He should quote excerpts from documents and interviews to argue his point of view.
