Moira Haslehurst, Accounts Administrator
Moira joined the team as Accounts Administrator in January 2003. She manages the day-to-day financial administration of the Trust and its Fellowship Programme, and is responsible for contractual arrangements with the British Council and the Department of Constitutional Affairs (our main partners in the John Smith Fellowships). As part of the Trust's Finance Panel she produces cash flow projections and budgets and reviews the viability of specific Trust projects and longer-term aims and objectives.
Moira qualified as a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 1987, having trained with a large firm in Birmingham specialising in large company audits, investigations and management buy-outs. She moved with the same firm to Kent in that year.
After the birth of her first child in 1989 she worked part-time; firstly in general accountancy/bookkeeping, and then as a part-time consultant for the Audit Commission, an independent public agency tasked with ensuring that public money is spent economically and effectively (http://www.audit-commission.gov.uk/aboutus/index.asp). Moira conducted audits of Local Councils and their projects, and also audited within the NHS, including the set up and administration of GP Fundholding (under which Doctors in General Practice were given greater control of their own health budgets). Later she worked directly with GP Fundholders and small businesses aiding in their annual accounting, budgeting and accounts preparation.
Moira moved to the USA for 3 years, and on returning in 2000 set up a consultancy company working part-time in a combined company secretarial, accountancy and administrative role.
