Dennis Sammut OBE
Dennis Sammut was born in Malta and educated at Ruskin College in Oxford and at the London School of Economics where he graduated as Master of Science in International Relations.
He was Programme Co-ordinator for the UK organisation VERTIC from 1994-97 and Executive Director of The London Information Network on Conflicts and State-building (LINKS) from 1997 till present.
He served as an Advisor to the United Nations in Afghanistan from November 2005 to April 2006 where he was part of an international team that helped set up the new Afghanistan Parliament. From 2002-7 he was also co-ordinator of the South Caucasus Parliamentary Initiative. In 2007 he served as co-Rapporteur of the Caucasus-Caspian Commission. Currently he is also the Chairman of the Consortium Initiative, a civil society platform supporting the Karabakh peace process.
He was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2007 New Year’s Honour’s List for services to conflict prevention and resolution in the South Caucasus.
Dennis has written extensively on the Caucasus region, European security, and governance issues and is a frequent traveller to the region. In his capacity as Trustee of the John Smith Memorial Trust he has travelled to Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Russia, and Ukraine.
