Victor Liakh

2008 Fellow, Ukraine

Victor is Executive Director of East Europe Foundation (EEF), a privately-managed, not-for-profit organisation which seeks to mobilise public and private resources for social development in Ukraine. EEF was launched in January 2008 and is a member of Eurasia Foundation Network. It focuses on four programme areas: local economic and social development, support for good governance, corporate social responsibility and responsible philanthropy, and business and economics education.

EEF has twelve members of staff and is supported by the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), British FCO, the Royal Netherlands Government, USAID, and corporations (Arcelor Mittal Kryviy Rih, Telenor etc). As Executive Director Victor is responsible for supervising and coordinating all programme activities, networking and lobbying at national level, liaising with state officials, and managing relationships with partner NGOs and the Ukrainian media.

Victor’s main challenge at the moment is to promote the newly-established EEF and ensure its sustainability. He is looking at ways of diversifying sources of income and developing links with donors in-country and abroad. He promotes the foundation on radio and television, and supervises four project managers and 20 different projects.
