Gulnaz Baiturova
2006 Fellow, Kyrgyzstan
Gulnaz is based in the USA working remotely for her NGO. Gulnaz is a Legal Consultant / Programme Assistant for the Ergene Public Foundation. Ergene’s goals are to provide a better quality of life for the Kyrgyz population, to support the health care system in Kyrgyzstan, and to deliver humanitarian aid to the community.
Ergene is a leading non-profitable organisation in Kyrgyzstan working on breast cancer control through raising awareness and early diagnosis. Ergene is currently drafting new breast cancer guidelines for primary health care workers on the basis of Breast Health Global Initiative (BHGI) guidelines. Ergene provides technical assistance to the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic on drafting Clinical Guidelines on cancer related problems, diseases, antibiotic resistance problems, laboratory standards improvement, management of drug usage, humanitarian assistance and other issues.
The Foundation successfully implemented the ‘Food for Peace’ programme in Kyrgyzstan – providing donated food to people in the most vulnerable state institutions. In May 2008 Ergene (with support of US Department of State, RPX and Family Fund Milwaukee, WI) managed the delivery of food to villages in the Osh region (oblast) where an earthquake caused much damage.
At the time of the 2006 Fellowship Programme, Gulnaz was Project Director for the Human Rights Democracy Centre. She has been a Freelance Researcher for the OSCE and a lecturer in International Human Rights Law at the American University of Central Asia.
Gulnaz delivers a presentation at No.11 Downing Street (July 2006)
