Gulnaz Baiturova

Gulnaz is a Protection Assistant at the UNHCR Bishkek Office in Kyrgyzstan.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established in1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency is mandated to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee problems worldwide. Its primary purpose is to safeguard the rights and well-being of refugees.

At the time of the 2006 Fellowship Programme, Gulnaz was Project Director for the Human Rights Democracy Centre. She has been a Freelance Researcher for the OSCE, a lecturer in International Human Rights Law at the American University of Central Asia, and Legal Consultant / Programme Assistant for the Ergene Public Foundation. Ergene’s goals are to provide a better quality of life for the Kyrgyz population, to support the health care system in Kyrgyzstan, and to deliver humanitarian aid to the community. In May 2008 Ergene (with support of US Department of State, RPX and Family Fund Milwaukee, WI) managed the delivery of food to villages in the Osh region (oblast) where an earthquake caused much damage.
