Ghassan Jawad Kadhim

Ghassan has been employed by the International Republican Institute (IRI) since
2006. Since 2003, IRI has conducted a multifaceted program, working with political
parties and candidates, indigenous civil society groups, and sitting government
officials to promote democratic governance in Iraq. Their programs have ranged from
election training for candidates running for public office to civil society advocacy
campaign and voter awareness television shows produced by IRI’s state-of-the-art
Media Center.
In late 2011, Ghassan was promoted to the position of Director of the Government Division. He was previously Senior Programme Officer within the division. He is responsible for the management of the Provincial Council Program since it began operating in April 2009. At local level, IRI conducts a training and consultation program for each of Iraq’s provisional councils, tailored for the specific needs of each council. For example, IRI helped the Anbar provincial council share ideas for development newly-discovered natural gas fields.
Ghassan’s previous employers include the Public Integrity Commission, Office of the Inspector General of the Ministry of Municipalities and Public Works, and the Ministry of Petroleum.
He studied Accounting at the University of Baghdad and received a diploma from the Arab Institute of Accountants. He has been a member of the Society for Human Rights since 1998.
