2006 Fellow Gela Kvashilava launches first UN Road Safety Week in Georgia
In late April 2007, The Partnership for Road Safety launched the UN First Global Road Safety Week in Georgia. The Partnership for Road Safety was established last year by 2006 Fellow Gela Kvashilava, with support of the FIA Foundation, to reduce road traffic accidents and make roads safer in Georgia. The Road Safety Week activities included: Georgia Auto Federation rallies in Kutaisi and Rustavi; news reports and special TV programmes as part of a wide ranging media campaign; educating children of the importance of using seatbelts (see picture below), and a youth march from the Parliament to Freedom Square.

The week long campaign received a large amount of media coverage at national and local level and succeeded in raising awareness of road safety issues in Georgia, particularly within the government.
