Trustees wish warm farewell to Trust Director
Emma MacLennan
On the eve of her retirement from the directorship, Emma was entertained by the Trustees to a valedictory dinner. In addition to all the available Trustees, Emma’s professional colleagues, Joanna, Emily, Moira and Julie, were present. Despite the universal regret at Emma’s retirement from the directorship, the event was affecting and enjoyable.
Trust Chairman Lord Robertson and Baroness Smith pay tribute to Emma
Lord Robertson of Port Ellen, the Chairman, spoke movingly of Emma’s dedication to the memory of John Smith and of her great achievement in building a Trust programme that continued to enjoy conspicuous success in making known the values that John had articulated so clearly. The Chairman, on behalf of the Trustees, presented Emma with a silver quaich engraved with the words:
For EMMA
who has done so much to spread understanding of the values of
JOHN SMITH
Trustee and former Chairman Lord McCluskey with Emma
The Trust staff, on behalf of the Fellows, also presented Emma with a beautiful book in which many Fellows had recorded their appreciation of Emma’s work and her unstinting generosity and friendly warmth.

In reply, Emma thanked all who had helped her to enjoy one of the most productive and rewarding experiences of her life; she was happy that the work of the Trust was everywhere seen to express well John’s spirit and ideas. The friendships that she had formed through her time with the Trust would endure timelessly.
