Trust Advisor Rt. Hon. George Reid honoured by Edinburgh University
On 28 November 2007, Trust Advisor Rt. Hon. George Reid was honoured by the award of a doctorate of Edinburgh University.
Vice Chancellor Dr Tim Shea said: “This is a man who has brought clarity of thought and purpose to Scotland. He put the problems of the new Parliament behind us and moved us on to thinking where Scotland goes next.”

Addressing his fellow 300 graduands, Mr Reid said:
“If our Scottish Universities are to remain great, our politicians must face the facts and find the funding. If Scotland is to remain competitive in the knowledge economy, we need global centres of excellence in research and teaching.”
The Rt Hon George Reid is Stevenson Professor at Glasgow University, has Master of Arts and Doctor of Laws degrees from the University of St Andrews, has a doctorate from Queen Margaret University and will be awarded the same degree from Stirling University in 2008.
George recently travelled to Moldova in order to promote the work of the John Smith Memorial Trust. As part of the visit he delivered a keynote speech to the Foreign Policy Association (APE, Asociatiei de Politică Externe) School on Conflict Resolution. George will travel back to Moldova’s capital Chisinau in February on behalf of the Trust to interview candidates for the 2008 Fellowship Programme.
