Gela and the PRS staff during Global Road Safety Week
In late April 2007, The Partnership for Road Safety launched the UN First Global Road Safety Week in Georgia. The Road Safety Week activities included: Georgia Auto Federation rallies in Kutaisi and Rustavi; news reports and special TV programmes as part of a wide ranging media campaign; educating children of the importance of using seatbelts, and a youth march from the Parliament to Freedom Square. The week long campaign received a large amount of media coverage at national and local level and succeeded in raising awareness of road safety issues in Georgia, particularly within the government.
The John Smith Memorial Trust is extremely proud of Gela’s achievements and will continue to support the Partnership for Road Safety in their campaign to raise road safety awareness in Georgia.
