John Smith Fellow appointed Permanent Representative of Moldova to the United Nations


On 11th September 2006, Alexei Tulbure, 2000 John Smith Fellow from Moldova, became the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Moldova to the United Nations.

Prior to his current appointment, Alexei was the Permanent Representative of Moldova to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (2002–2006). Alexei was nominated for this Ambassadorial post by the President of Moldova. After completing the John Smith Fellowship Programme, Alexei served as President of the University’s “Higher Anthropological School” in Chisinau, Moldova (2001–2002).

At the time of the Fellowship in 2000, Alexei was a Moldovan Member of Parliament and member of the Committee for Foreign Policy. Before becoming an MP, Alexei was Director of the Department for Foreign Relations of the Parliament of Moldova (1996-1998), a consultant in the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Policy (1994-1996), and a senior specialist at Moldova’s State Department for Interethnic Relations (1990-1992).
