Elias Diab is a Manager for the Iraq Public Sector Modernisation project at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (UNESCWA) regional office based in Beirut. His role involves providing technical advice and assistance to the United Nations Country Team and Government of Iraq. Until May 2013 Elias worked as a Child Protection Officer for UNICEF Iraq, where he played an important role in the crisis management team dealing with the arrival of Syrian refugees. He is a trained Lawyer and has a Master’s degree in International Criminal Justice and Armed Conflicts from the University of Nottingham.
Elias aims to address the affects that the influx of Syrian refugees is having on public services in Lebanon. As Lebanon’s infrastructure and access to justice is increasingly stretched, Elias wants to implement a capacity building framework within the community policing and law enforcement agencies that would allow them to better manage the growing population.
