Roman is Head of the Press and Public Relations Department at the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration. He is responsible for the overall management and strategic planning of the Department. Roman has been working on several projects recently:
- The “First NGOs Week in Russia” was launched to establish a practical strategy of collaboration between local NGOs and the Nizhny Novgorod City Administration including events such a monthly NGO leaders club.
- Following the NGO Week Roman’s department launched the “REforma” project in order to educate the public on areas such as road safety, attitudes towards disabled people, and other social issues
- The “Future of Nizhny” project aims to establish a transparent system of financial and media support for the work of NGOs
- Roman is also working on a project titled “With No Tie”. Its aim is to present local politicians, businessmen, and intellectuals in a different light -
not as officials, but as interesting people whose unique experience and success may be useful and a positive influence for other people
At the time of the 2007 Fellowship Programme, Roman was Head of the Public Relations Department at the Nizhny Novgorod Region Legislative Assembly. He worked for the Chairman of the Assembly, promoting its work through press coverage, partnership work with NGOs and youth participation.
In 2005 Roman won an essay competition called the ‘Pride of the Nation’ (‘A vision of the region’s and Russia’s future - the strategy of development’) which was well-received at the Legislative Assembly and then the State Duma of the Russian Federation Federal Assembly. His work has since included implementing social projects, improving human rights and media reform. In the future, Roman is keen to start a school for political leaders in the Nizhny Novgorod organising educational programmes, seminars, discussion clubs and exchanges for future politicians. He is interested in freedom of speech and promoting independent media companies.
