Olimpia is a Senior Staff Attorney at the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative. Olimpia has a long and active record of promoting reform of the legal profession in Moldova – while working at the Ministry of Justice she handled Human Rights cases in Strasbourg, drafted legislation, and worked on training programmes for judges, prosecutors and defence attorneys. As Senior Staff Attorney for the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative Olimpia has successfully piloted changes to the Law on the Legal Profession, made amendments to Criminal Procedure Code, and has participated in drafting the first ever Strategy of Development for the Moldovan Bar Association.
She is also a member of the Soros Foundation Moldova Criminal Justice Analytic Group and the Human Rights Activists Group.
Together with Nadejda Hriptievschi (JS Fellow) Olimpia is working to present the Moldovan Bar Association with instruments to introduce peer review for legal aid lawyers based on Scottish models of quality assurance. Olimpia has also participated in developing the first CLE curricula for defense attorneys and is now working with the Association of Young Lawyers to improve the quality of legal apprenticeships in Moldova by drafting the first initial training curricula for legal apprentices, and helping the Council of the Bar Association to identify the best ways to effectively offer legal training for apprentices.
